This episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast takes a look at a subject that is very close to our hearts: is piracy wrong? As always, we would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Sales of our movies have decreased over the years, which has made it very difficult just to keep the business operating — even though we are not able to pay ourselves. File sharing and bit-torrent sites have been knocking our legs out from under us.

As filmmakers, we are approached all of the time by people who have seen the movie in some illegal way. Some see it online, others host screenings at their churches but do not pay the screening license, and still others get burned copies from a friend. A little more on a grey side — what about people who tape programs off of the television? What do you think about these trends? They are clearly taking possession of something that they did not pay for. The Bible leaves no breathing room for stealing. So what stance will you take?

Ouch. Ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch, ouch ouch, ouchie ouch ouch.

I feel rather burdened now with this decision. I love editing movies with good music that i’ll rent from the library, but to stop that and make my movies less enjoyable? Ouch.

It hurts. Lord help me, help us all. But isn’t it worth it? ugh. to the land where everything is free and copywrite/piracy laws are no more is where i venture. farewell.

but since that’s not a place i guess i better make a decision. ugh. ouch. ugh.

Again, Lord help me.. help us! It’s hard…

Thanks for your honesty, Jordan. Piracy hurts. As we noted in the podcast, the day I deleted all of my MP3s that I didn’t own was tough. Painful. But I have found a lot more peace lately.

Actually, it has pushed me further. I have been taking efforts to sort through which MP3s belong to my brother and which belong to me so that I will only have mine on my iPod. That way I’m not ripping off the company by “sharing” music with my brother. That has been REALLY hard. It means both of us buying some of the same albums, even though we live in the same apartment, use the same computer, and, often, listen to the same music. But I really believe that that is what is 1) honoring the Lord and 2) honoring the spirit of copyright law.

God bless you and lead you as you work on deleting your movies!
